南非聖約翰學院合唱團

St John’s College is a private Anglican Church school in the centre of Johannesburg, South Africa. The school provides schooling for 1 350 boys from the age of 5 to 18.The choir leads the singing at the weekly College sung Eucharist on a Wednesday morning. The College choir consists of boys from the Preparatory School Choir of about 30 pupils, ranging from

ages 11 – 13 and 85 boys from the high school choir from age 14 to 18.

An anthem is sung at every mass. The choir also performs a major work every year, often with professional orchestra and soloists. The repertoire is varied with church music and African traditional music. Recent performances include Widor’s Mass for Two Choirs and Two Organs, Bach’s St. John Passion (BWV 245), Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland, BWV 61 and Navidad Nuestra by Ramirez. The choir also participates in musicals, the most recent one Lloyd Webber’s Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.
When the choir tours, a small group of singers is selected from the bigger choir.

Conductor/Sidumo Nyamezele
Sidumo Nyamezele was appointed to St John’s College four years ago and has developed a wide repertoire of African music for the College and Preparatory School choirs, as well as for the entire school. He has conducted the World Youth Choir in 2007 with a programme of traditional African music whilst touring in South Africa.

Conductor/Ben Oosthuizen
Ben Oosthuizen is the Director of Music and Choirmaster at St John’s College. The College has an extensive choral and instrumental programme for boys from the age of 5 to 18.
